Dried Blood Spot
Using a heel-prick, a small amount of blood is collected from all babies shortly after birth. In Ontario, this blood is sent to NSO where it is tested for serious diseases. Early detection of these diseases is critical to ensure the baby can receive effective treatment.
This section of our website reviews dried blood spot specimen collection procedures and includes educational resources to assist health care providers in obtaining a satisfactory sample.
